At WLS we are exploring the letter of Timothy that Paul writes to Timothy to help him understand how Churches should function at their best. We believe though this letter does not just hold wisdom for Timothy then but speaks to us now as the word of God and can shape us as a church as well.
Advent '24
Advent is a time of preparation to commemorate Jesus’s first coming in a stable in Bethlehem two millennia ago and his present arrival into our hearts today. Ultimately, advent points forward to Jesus’ second coming, when he returns to establish his Kingdom across the whole of creation fully. What a beautiful and profound season Advent is!
This advent we are preaching on four passages that embody that beautiful advent prayer calling on us to have the joy of the angels, the eagerness of the shepherds, the determination of the wise men, and the obedience of Mary & Joseph.
The Gospel of Mark
Join us as we dig deep into the Gospel of the Mark as our Autumn 2024/Winter 2025 teaching series, where we see Mark telling us through his writings that Jesus is the Messiah and the Kingdom of God has arrived, and what that means for us. As part of this series we have incorporated a prayer at the beginning of our readings, taken from the ‘Read, Mark, Learn’ teaching series, and we will hear the whole of Mark’s gospel read across the course of this series, so that our preaching is done in light of the whole of of the gospel narrative itself.
The Epistle of Jude
The Book of Jude, the penultimate book of the New Testament, is a brief yet powerful epistle attributed to Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ and the brother of James. Written to early Christian believers, it addresses the urgent need to defend the faith against false teachers and immoral influences that were infiltrating the church. Jude emphasizes the importance of holding fast to the true teachings of Christ and warns of the consequences for those who corrupt the gospel. Despite its short length, the book is filled with vivid imagery and references to Old Testament examples of divine judgment, making it a compelling call for spiritual vigilance.
Titus
The Epistle to Titus is a brief but powerful letter from the Apostle Paul, offering guidance on church leadership, sound doctrine, and Christian living. Addressed to Titus, a trusted companion, it emphasizes the importance of good works and faith amidst a culture of moral decline. This letter serves as a timeless manual for nurturing spiritual growth and maintaining order within the Christian community.
