Love Your Neighbour project days
Saturday 14th June (Women’s Ministry project day)
Saturday 21st June (whole church)
Saturday 28th June (whole church)
As a church community, going out into the community, we will be spending the project days gardening and decorating (and maybe more) for those in York who could do with a bit of extra help.
Come as a Belfrey Group or we’ll put together teams of individuals and smaller groups to “Love York” in practical ways.
Sign up to one or more of the days below (just click on the relevant button). Please note that the 14th June is for women only, headed up by our women’s ministry team, as we serve some vulnerable women in our city.
14th June 21st June 28th June
It’s great fun, and there’s no need to bring anything but yourselves (although if you have favourite tools, feel free bring them along).
To find out more, keep scrolling down and you’ll find some photos and reflections from those involved in our last project day in 2023.
Don’t feel up to a physical day’s work? Don’t worry, you can still get involved:
pray for the recipients and for those gardening and decorating
donate towards the cost of materials such as paint
make a cake for the recipient/volunteers
put together a new home pack. This is similar to a Christmas hamper with some lovely treats but including everyday household items too (sponges, washing up brush, tea towels, coffee - anything you think might be useful to someone who is starting completely from scratch).
Reflections from project volunteers in 2023:
Our Belfrey Group, supplemented by two lovely extras, were given the challenge of clearing part of a garden which had become substantially overgrown. The garden had clearly been the pride and joy of the client and his wife, but sadly his wife had died and the client had lost a lot of mobility, so was no longer able to look after the garden. We were pleased to help and turned up to a nice welcome by the client, who kept us supplied with drinks through the day. Besom had supplied a good range of tools, supplemented by some of our own and, working as a group, we uncovered parts of the garden which had clearly not seen the light of day for some time. It was incredible to see how much progress could be made working collectively and we had a great time, building links as a group, enjoying hacking and chopping, and helping to transform a neglected part of a loved garden. At the end of the day, we left tired but appreciative we had been able to help in a small way, providing a witness through practical action. As an added bonus, the two lovely extras now want to join our Belfrey Group! (Richard)
What an amazing opportunity we had, being able to intentionally partner in Besom's vision demonstrating God's generous love through provision, time hope, practical skills and transformation!! What a day of faith building for all of us involved.
It was such a joy to come together as a group and well as spend time getting to know other individuals who joined us too.
No expertise needed at all, everyone in their own way had a gift they could use through the day.The recipient can now enjoy spending time in their freshly decorated home.
It became really apparent through talking to Besom and our receipent that there is such great eed across our city.
God really showed us so much more than we could have ever expected as we spent time together!! Giving us so much to reflect on even in just the short space of time that we were there.
His heart of compassion is the core of why we do what we do through Social Action across the city.
Being able to help meet the needs of our recipient not just in the practical sense was a real joy. There was a real sense of community through the day between us all our recipient included.
Something we now hope to continue as a group following project completion.
The Lord really did speak to our hearts. (Remi)
