Dear Church Family
It's been great having our mission partners Tim and Susie Eves back with us, along with Simon. They shared some things about their work overseas last Sunday. God has placed a great vision inside of them - to use their skills (which include computing, hospitality, common sense and lots of love) to help bring his good news to people who otherwise would not hear it. Their faithful, sacrificial work is wonderful to see, share and support. It also challenges us to do the same.
Like the Eves, the Lord has called each one of us to serve him, putting dreams and visions inside of us that he's uniquely gifted us for. For some of us this will involve serving overseas (even short-term ... so please pray for our Discipleship Year interns who head to Malaga on Mission on Monday). But for most of us, that call is fulfilled more locally or regionally. It's about faithfully serving here, amongst our families, places of study, workplaces, streets and communities. It's about obediently doing what God has called us to do. As church, we're to help each other do this, as together we serve God's transformation of (York and) the North.
Whilst away recently, as well as doing some writing, I've been reading some of Mark Batterson's books. In his 'Chase the Lion' Batterson helpfully defines 'success': 'In God's book' he says, 'success is spelled stewardship. It's making the most of the time, talent and treasure God has given you. It's doing the best you can with what you have where you are.' I like that!
So may I urge you to stay faithful to all God has called you to do. To keep praying. To keep going. To keep encouraging. And as church family, let's be spurring each other on to do the same. Together we're called to see God's kingdom come and will be done, here on earth as it is in heaven. Together, let's all play our part.
