Dear Church Family
It was great having Ben and Ellie Doolan back with us last weekend, to hear more of their calling to and plans for Newcastle, and to pray for them and the team going from us. It's an honour to play such a significant part in planting this new resource church. Please keep praying for them. And for us too, that we will be able to plant many more churches in the coming years.
As we plan for more future church plants, we expect they'll be of different shapes and sizes in a variety of locations. To do this we'll need good leaders, a team, and to work closely with Bishops and Anglican senior staff. We will also need to keep growing and filling up, so we can send out, so please pray for that. Not everyone will go and plant a church. In fact, most of us will stay here in York, serving the Lord here in our workplaces and amongst our friends, and through our church. I want us to be excited about this, and how church planting can be a significant part of realising our vision to be serving God's transformation of the North.
Evangelism and church planting are meant to go together. One should result in the other, and vice versa. That's why we need to keep reaching out and in particular inviting people. There's a great opportunity to do that this Sunday evening, with the 7pm Thy Kingdom Come/ OneVoice service on Sunday in York Minster being a guest service. Paul Myers will be sharing his testimony, so please pray for him and think about who you might invite to hear the good news of Jesus. Please pray too for Warren Furman, who is speaking at St Cuthbert's Church in Preston on Sunday morning, with the service being televised live on BBC1 from 11am.
Don't forget that this Sunday is Pentecost, as we remember God pouring out the Holy Spirit on his church. We only have one service in St Michael le Belfrey Church - which is at 10.30am - and is for the whole church family. It will include Communion and baptisms. Do join us and we celebrate the Presence of the God who transforms lives!
Finally, Richard Dearden shared a helpful prophetic word at The6 last Sunday, which is online as the latest Belfrey Blog, and can be read by clicking here. As you read it do pray over it, asking the Lord what he is asking of you and us, as together we seek to be obedient to the guidance of God's Spirit.
Happy Pentecost! God bless
