Dear Church Family
Happy New Year to you all! Whatever 2017 brought to you, I hope you're looking forward to 2018 with faith and expectation. Our God is with us, as we've just remembered at Christmas as we celebrated the coming of Jesus, our Emmanuel. His presence makes all the difference.
As we look to the year ahead, living in the light of God's presence, I'm praying that this is a year of overflow for us as a church. I'm asking the Lord that all which he has generously poured into us will flow out to others. To our families and loved ones. To our neighbours and work colleagues. To the vulnerable, poor and those who are struggling. The Bible says that in God's presence 'there is fulness of joy' (Psalm 16:11) - which means we have more than enough joy, as well as love, strength and other resources, to give away and share. Overflow is supposed to be a mark of all missional, resourcing churches. Something is only full when its overflows. That's why Bill Johnson helpfully says that 'fulness is measured in overflow'. As we seek to be people full of God's presence so it's important that we don't keep God's goodness to ourselves but liberally give away.
I'll be teaching on overflow on the second and third Sundays of January and sharing soon a special film message all about it. Please look out for these and be praying that the Lord will be speaking to each one of us about how we can all be people of overflow in 2018.
May the Lord's kind and forgiving love flow into you, and overflow out of you, in 2018.
PS I'm including again (below) the information I added at the end of my last Friday Message for 2017, letting you know about various discipleship resources available to you. Please do take a look and be equipped for overflow in the coming year!
