Dear Church Family
'Fulness is measured in overflow' says Bill Johnson. And he's right! When people bump into us, what spills out? When we ask the Lord to fill us with the Holy Spirit, does it impact beyond us, positively influencing our loved-ones, friends, colleagues and neighbours? All this means that if you'd like the Lord to use you even more in the future, ask him to fill you to overflowing with the Spirit (as we're called to do in Ephesians 5:18). Just don't forget that he's doing that not just for your benefit, but for others too.
It's the same for us as a church. We want to be a church reaching out with Christ's love to the people of York and beyond. We want God's presence to overflow. For this to happen, we need to be full. Full to overflowing. That's why we regularly and unashamedly ask the Spirit of Jesus to come and fill us when we gather.
So, how full are you? And how full are we as a church? If you think we're not full enough, why not be honest with the Lord and tell him, and ask for more? It's ok to ask. God doesn't mind. In fact he invites us to ask (see Luke 11:13). That's because he's the God 'who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine' (Ephesians 3:20).
As we follow Jesus in this new season, so the Lord wants to flow in and then out from us. With love. Kindness. Care. Prayer. Vision. Financial Provision. Practical action. Joy. Hope. And much more. As he does these things, let's be sharing our overflow stories in these coming weeks.
PS. Do consider coming to the Wholeness conference with Christy Wimber on Saturday 29th September from 10am-4pm in St Michael le Belfrey Church. This New Wine event aims to equip us to better understand some of mental health issues that many struggle with today. You can find out more by clicking here. We're honoured that Christy will be staying on and speaking at all our Sunday services on Sunday 30th September.
