Dear Church Family
Christmas Day is fast approaching, as we prepare to celebrate the Saviour's birth!
If you're away from York visiting family or friends at Christmas, may you travel safely and share with those around you the comfort and joy of Christ. If you're here in York, we have our usual services this Sunday, followed by a Crib Service at 2pm on Christmas Eve, and then one service on Christmas morning for all the church family at 10.30am.
As we celebrate the coming of Emmanuel - God with us - some two thousand years ago, it's thrilling to hear stories of people encountering God with us today, especially at this time of year. Just last Sunday a woman shared with me how a prayer she'd been praying for four a half years had been wonderfully answered. A young man from a Muslim background came to church in the morning for the first time and then came back again in the evening. He sensed the presence of God and took a bible to read wanting to find out about the person of Jesus. Another woman told me of the healing she'd received in her body and the confidence this has brought her, since she was prayed for a few weeks ago at one of our services. And a man who took Communion told me afterwards how this was the first time he'd received Communion in fifty years, because now 'he's coming back' to the Lord. God is indeed with us!
As we approach the end of 2018, and with no Friday Message next week, may I take this opportunity to say that it's a great privilege to be Vicar of our church. I so value our church family, from the youngest to the oldest. At the recent Christmas café person after person from outside of York told me to pass on to the rest of the church their thanks at our welcome, hospitality and kindness and many said that if they were in York, they'd be part of our church! Most important of all, of course, is Jesus Christ himself - the One who came to save us, because we couldn't save ourselves. He's the reason for the season. He's the Lord of our church. May each of us celebrate his birth with passion and love in these coming days.
Have a very happy Christmas.
