Dear Church Family
What a great weekend it was last weekend at The Belfrey!
On Saturday around 2,000 people came into St Michael le Belfrey Church on a crazily-busy day. Resting from their shopping they received a warm welcome, hot refreshments, tasty cakes, sang carols and heard the good news of Christmas. We chatted to lots of people and prayed with a good number, many opening up with stories of sadness, relational breakdown, anxiety and loneliness. Others were thankful and hopeful. I particularly enjoyed praying with two mothers-to-be as well as with one person who, after many years of being away from God said she wanted to 'come home'. There were a number of people who prayed to begin following Jesus, as well as nearly 500 Gideon New Testaments given away.
Then on Sunday night we had our Carol Service in York Minster. Many of the church family served up front and behind the scenes. With wonderful and witty drama from Riding Lights, excellent music led by Tom Holmes and Andrew Snedden, and great preaching from Miriam Swaffield, the message of 'New Hope' rang through the whole evening. Please be praying that those present who were searching for new hope find true hope in Jesus Christ.
Thank you to everyone who served, who invited and who prayed last weekend. What a great example of the body of Christ in action (Romans 12:4-5)! What an honour to serve the head, Jesus Christ, in this way. He is doing marvellous things in and through us (Psalm 98:1). As we prepare for our Christmas celebrations next weekend, let's stay prayerful and thankful and keep pointing people to Jesus Christ. He truly is the reason for the season.
