Dear Church Family
Thank you to all who prayed for the team who went from The Belfrey last weekend to St Barnabas Middlesbrough for a renewal weekend entitled 'Encountering God Together'. We were able to encourage the church in lots of ways and saw some people being healed and at least one person make a commitment to Christ. It's good to see and be reminded that the simple, timeless message of Christ really does transforms lives.
We're all called to play our part in sharing this good news of Jesus. Some are especially gifted at this, and in the Church of England those having an evangelistic impact beyond their locality are formally recognised by being invited to join the College of Evangelists. Greg Downes, our Associate Minister was invited last year to join the College and today he is being formally welcomed into the College in a special service in Leicester Cathedral. Please do pray for Greg and for the other evangelists the Lord is raising up amongst us - that they'll be faithful in preaching the gospel, see many come to faith in Christ, and also encourage and train lots of people to do the same.
The Lord is doing many good things in the church in our region, although parts of the church in our Diocese are struggling. Please remember these churches too in your prayers. As a church we are wanting to do all we can to encourage and support other churches in their mission and ministry, and would love to see more declining churches revitalised and new churches planted. We're a lead church behind New Wine's INSPIRE conference, taking place in Thirsk from 18th-22nd August 2017, and hope that many from our region, and from The Belfrey will go. INSPIRE will be a great opportunity to enjoy time with the wider church family, to worship, to receive great teaching, and also time to meet others from our region and encourage them. If you've not yet signed up to come to INSPIRE, go to the website - newwineinspire.com - and please do so as soon as possible as we're expecting it will soon fill up as day tickets are about to be released. To find out more about INSPIRE, do watch the video below at the end of this Message.
Finally I hope you'll be able to join us (and many from other churches) on the evening of Pentecost Sunday (4th June) at 7.30pm for Thy Kingdom Come in York Minster. It's a privilege for us to take a lead role in that evening of praise and prayer, and we'll be joined by the Archbishop and sharing with millions of Christians from across the nation and world in crying out to the Lord for a new Pentecost. It would help if you could register before-hand for your free ticket, so please do that soon by clicking on this link.
Let's keep on praying. Keep on trusting. Keep on telling of his love and grace. For we serve a good God whose kindness, forgiveness and generosity knows no bounds.
