Dear Church Family
Thank you so much for praying faithfully for Emily Cullis - one of our student medics who was taken very ill in the Philippines a few weeks ago. For those who don't know, Emily was serving with a Christian healthcare charity but became very ill and on Ash Wednesday was fighting for her life in intensive care. We held a prayer meeting for her that night, and it was wonderful to see 40 students and young adults turn up to contend for her healing, and I received messages from many more who specifically joined in prayer that night. There was no immediate improvement, but we joined with brothers and sisters from around the world to pray for her healing. We received some wonderful news on that Sunday morning that Emily had come round and was breathing for herself. It's certainly not been an easy few weeks since and Emily is still not yet fully recovered, but the fact that she is alive, and does not have long term brain damage is miraculous. The doctors verify that her remarkable recovery was not (medically) expected! Thank you so much for your prayers. There is so much to give thanks for here!
Please continue to pray for Emily, firstly that her healing would be more fully realised - she currently does not have the use of her legs. She is undergoing physiotherapy, and is approaching this with great resilience and showing real spiritual maturity. Emily is praying the great prayer of our Lord Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane: 'Father, your will be done'.
Secondly, please pray that she would be able to return to the UK soon. She is physically now able to fly, but there is some bureaucracy that is preventing her from returning. Please pray for favour with all in authority - and a speedy and safe trip back!
Lastly, please pray for all who are supporting Emily at this time - especially for her best friend here in York (who also worships at The Belfrey), her family (who have flown out to be with her) and her friend and leader Dr. Rachael (who runs the charity Emily was working for, and has tirelessly cared for Emily for the last 4 weeks).
We look forward to seeing Emily back soon!
