Dear Church Family
Happy New Year to you all!
At our Belfrey Group last night we spent some time looking back and looking forward. I'll do that in this short Message, as it's a great thing to do as a new year begins.
As we look back on 2016 I hope you can do so with much thanksgiving. Whatever 2016 brought to you and your family, I trust you can were aware of God's presence and his provision as a good Father. I hope you can also look back and see how the Lord used you to touch others and to show his love in word and action. As a church the Lord has been so kind to us and we are grateful!
As we look forward to 2017 we can do so knowing that God has good plans for us all. To prepare well for all that lies ahead we're beginning the year by a period of slowing down and praying - as next week we begin 21 Days of Prayer & Fasting (from 9-29 January). We're suggesting 3 ways to fast:
This Sunday I will be giving a special New Year's message and showing a short film that Belfrey Media helped me record at the end of last year in preparation for 2017. You'll hear me talk about the Lord inviting us to encounter him in 2017. This, I believe, is his desire both for those not yet following Christ but also for those who've been believers for some years. As we seek him in 2017, so we'll find him to be the One who satisfies like no other.
As part of the 21 Days of Prayer & Fasting there are three special Thursday evening gatherings for prayer, worship, teaching and ministry (on 12th, 19th and 26th Jan) starting this Thursday in St Michael le Belfrey Church. Entitled 'Encountering God Together'. This is for all congregations and Belfrey Groups as we pray and seek God together for the coming year.
My prayer for us all is that 2017 will be a year of wonderful encounter and that we'll be able to look back in a year's time and say: 'the Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy' (Psalm 126:3).
