Dear Church Family
So the clocks have changed, November is here, the weather's gone cooler and Christmas now seems just round the corner! York is a wonderful place to be during the Advent and Christmas season - with the sound of carols in the air, beautifully dressed shop windows, Christmas concerts and many opportunities for festive mission and ministry. I hope you're beginning to pray and plan how you can enjoy Christmas and make a difference to the lives of others.
There's a great opportunity to serve in this way at our two Saturday Christmas cafes in St Michael le Belfrey Church. The first, on 26th November takes place right in the middle of York's St Nicholas' Fayre - and the city will be teaming with people, so it's great we'll be able to welcome people into church and point them to the reason for the season - Jesus Christ. The second is a week later, on 3rd December. Being the day before our Carol Service in York Minster, we'll be singing festive songs, enjoying a live nativity and inviting all to the service next day. If you've not yet signed up to help, you can do so by clicking here.
Please make sure you've marked the date for the Minster Carol Service in your diary - Sunday 4th December at 7.30pm. And do begin thinking who you might invite - as invitations will be ready to give out soon.
Lots of people will be serving in all sorts of ways over the Advent and Christmas season. Some of that will be up-front and obvious, but in a church much giving of time and energy and resources is unseen. It's behind closed doors. It's on the phone, or sending a message or card. It's visiting, caring, praying, loving. I know so many of us serve our neighbours and each other in this way. We don't do it for recognition. We do it because it's what we do, as church family. Thank you for serving in this way. For making a difference to others. Every time we do this, God's kingdom comes right here on earth - in York and in the North - as it is in heaven. Thank you.
