Dear Church Family
At the One Voice prayer meeting for church leaders on Wednesday there was a recognition that there's a growing openness to God in our city. Many who don't belong to a church are willing to receive prayer, ready to ask questions and to even consider what it means to follow Jesus. Maybe the Lord has been answering the prayer that some of us having been praying over the last few years, for an increasing hunger in York for the good news of Jesus.
This should encourage us in our mission, as we share in word and action the love of Jesus. We aim to make our services friendly and accessible to people not used to church, so do invite friends. If it helps, give away one of the 'hello' cards from the pews, or perhaps one of the new 'Autumn 2018 at The Belfrey' booklets. We've had some lovely stories in the last few months of people who've started following Jesus simply as a result of being invited to church by a friend. Also coming up we have:
INVITATION SERVICE: Sunday 7th October 2018 at The6. At this sports-themed service, the good news of Jesus will be clearly presented along with some testimonies from people who've begun following Jesus recently.
ALPHA: Alpha helps people consider what it means to follow Jesus, using film and small groups. We hope to do Alpha three times in the coming year, with the next course starting soon, and running in a home. If you're interested in coming to Alpha, bringing a friend or helping on Alpha, please contact Mike Perkins.
TALKING JESUS: This is a short course on Monday evenings, which began this week, giving some practical tips on how to Talk Jesus to those around us. For more details, please contact Paul Myers.
NOT WAVING I'M DROWNING: This is the latest in a series of seminars put on by Doug Greenfield, on Tuesday 2nd October at 7pm in the Belfrey Hall, aiming to help explore some of the big questions of life, reaching an audience that might not come to church on a Sunday. Do contact Douglas for more details.
As well as all this, the most important thing we can do to see our friends come to Christ, is to pray. So please pray! To pick up the theme from last Sunday (from The Parable of the Sower in Luke 8), please pray that seeds sown will germinate and produce a great harvest!
There are a two other things I'd also like you to pray for this week, please.
First, please pray for Amber Boydell, as she begins work as our Temporary Administrator. Amber is already working halftime for us as our New Wine Discipleship Year Leader. We're thrilled that Amber has taken on this temporary post, so please pray that she settles into this new role quickly, and do contact her if you have questions or queries about the administration of our church. Amber's email address is: firstname.lastname@example.org
Second, please pray for Jim Fox and his family as they mourn the loss of Cynthia, who died this week. Cynthia's funeral will be on Thursday 4th October at 11.30am in St Michael le Belfrey Church. Cynthia was much loved and will be greatly missed.
So in these coming days please pray and invite, as we reach out with the good news of Jesus and support each other as a church family. Christ's good news really is the best news - bringing new vision for this life and true hope for the next.
