Dear Church Family
As you read this, we'll have started a 3-day period of prayer, fasting and renewal of financial giving. Please do join in with this, as best you can, and be seeking God for overflow. (To find out more about this, follow this link). He longs to pour out his Spirit into you, your family and our church, and then to flow out into our city and our region. Please be asking the Lord what he is saying to you. What he is doing. And how he wants you to respond.
We began these three days with our Evening of Prayer last night, in St Michael le Belfrey Church. If you missed that, you can catch up and join in by watching it again on our Facebook page. About two thirds of the way through James Fletcher gives some excellent teaching, just for a few minutes, on fasting. It's excellent - helping us see what fasting is (and isn't!) and why we do it. I also explain briefly after that why we're renewing our financial giving: because the Bible says it's good to plan our giving; because it's good to do that at the beginning of a new year as we look ahead, and to do it together in the light of what we sense the Lord saying, and also because giving releases overflow. Jesus could not be clearer about this in Luke 6:38 when he says:
'Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.'
That's why we'd love everyone who's part of The Belfrey to also use these three days to consider your financial giving to church, and then, this Sunday to bring your Financial Pledge Form to church. This will help each of us plan our giving and help the church plan for the coming year. But also, as we come to offer our gifts to the Lord this Sunday, let's use this as an opportunity to offer our lives again to him, rededicating ourselves to him and his service.
So this is an important few days. It's all part of preparing well for the year ahead. Let's be praying that this truly is a year of overflow.
